I had an aha! moment the other day. I was talking on the phone with Kate, a professional contact, discussing my brand. She asked me if I could speak to men about loving themselves and bouncing back. “After all,” Kate said, “men need to bounce back, too.”
I thought about it for a minute—okay, seconds—and said, “Yes, of course I can.”
I know we all need to learn how to love themselves. But up until that conversation, I don’t think I realized how I had been limiting myself by restricting my talks to women, only.
I always imagine me speaking to women. When picturing myself accomplishing my dream of becoming a motivational speaker, I envision lots and lots of women in the audience.
But men can also use some help learning how to love and embrace who they are. We can all benefit by learning how to take care of ourselves and become our own best friend! Everyone can have the greatest love affair of all with themselves!
I got so stuck in my head believing I could only help women learn how to love who they are, that I forgot how I share my message with my two boys every day. As a single mom of Jacob and Ari, I’m always teaching and sharing tips with them on loving who they are. And now, I am sharing four ideas for all of you—both men and women—to use to treat yourselves like your own best friend.
- Take time for a health check! There is only one you. I often hear people say things like, “I don’t have time to go to the doctor,” or “I’ll go later.” Remember, you can’t take care of others if you do not take care of yourself!
- Just for YOU! When was the last time you did something just for you? Commit to one thing this week that you enjoy doing and do it. Schedule the time on your calendar if you need to, just do it for yourself.
- Talk to Yourself! Yes, talk to yourself. Tell yourself something positive and nice. Give yourself a compliment about a job well done. You spend the most time with yourself so start saying nice things to you!
- Get Some Rest! I enjoy my rest. I know my body needs it. Everyone’s body needs it. To be at the top of your game, you must respect and honor your body. Not only your body, but your mind will benefit. Life can seem a whole lot brighter after a good night’s rest.
My hope is that after reading this, you will consider doing something just for you.
Remember to treat yourself like your own best friend, because no one else will treat you any better. It’s your life! Make it a great day my friends.
